Our Team

Kavahana was founded by Neil and Hannah.

Neil has family roots in Fiji, where kava is the national drink. In Fiji and across the South Pacific and Hawaii, kava has been shared for over 3000 years as a family drink. It is something people gather around to slow down, talk, and spend time together.

Hannah has lived with anxiety for most of her life. About 15 years ago, she began exploring natural remedies that had been both traditionally used and scientifically studied for their health benefits. That search led her to kava, a plant with a long history of supporting calm and emotional balance.

Kavahana began as a pop up, serving kava throughout Los Angeles. 

From farmers markets and sporting events like the Malibu Triathlon to late night underground raves, we shared kava in all kinds of environments. 

We loved introducing people to kava for the first time.

Introducing Kava Nectar

In 2023, we launched Kava Nectar with the goal of creating a high quality, natural form of kava that stays true to the plant itself. 

Kava Nectar is made simply and intentionally, with no additives or fillers, using only carefully sourced noble kava cultivars. 

It’s made from the juice of fresh green kava root, grown for 5 to 7 years before harvest and gently dried into a fine powder.

In 2024, we opened our cafe in Santa Monica. We envisioned a welcoming space where people could learn, connect, and spend time together. A place that feels just as good during the day as it does at night!
